Dear Vidhu Vinod Chopra,

How are you? I wish this letter finds you well.

I’ve recently had the pleasure of watching your movie, “12TH FAIL,” and I must express my admiration for your creativity. While my intention is to provide some feedback on what you could have done better, I’d like to begin with sincere appreciation for the positive aspects of your work.

I would like to THANK YOU-

  1. For opting a small neglected village story and portraying it on big screen as HOPE & POSSIBILITY while keeping it real.
  2. For choosing each one of the cast so wisely who were capable to transform into their scripted persona so gracefully.
  3. For presenting the inner war of a FATHER so beautifully who risks everything for the sake of his Beliefs but regrets later as doing so nearly destroys his family.
  4. For showing the SELFISH & SELFLESS side of a Grandmother, her Love, her blessings which made us understand our own Grandparents better.
  5. For shedding light on the story behind the “Jami Jamai Vyavastha,” compelling us to reconsider our focus on eradicating the root causes of cheating rather than blaming the cheaters.
  6. For creating the scene where the MOTHER is angry at his Husband for leaving them alone with their misery but still runs to fetch the tiffin and asks “Bhuke Pet Ladoge Ka!?” Thank you for showing the world what STRENGTH & ENDURANCE it takes to be a middle class Mother.
  7. For showcasing the UNCONDITIONAL LOVE & BRAVERY of BROTHERS & SISTERS who would handle anything and everything at home, who would sacrifice their own dreams so that their beloved could fly.
  8. For taking us through the Journey of an imperfect friend who is kind, insecure, helping, jealous but beyond all, who reached out to a complete stranger in time of despair and stood by him.
  9. For re-defining #Heroism by telling the story of one of the many GAURI BHAIYAs who lost their career but won in life by uplifting others.
  10. For giving us such an amazing love story of two people who are above all cast, patriarchal, superficial mentality. They speak on behalf of every couple who supported each other through thick and thin yet can’t get married because of societal restrictions.
  11. For spotlighting personalities like MANOJ KUMAR SHARMA, DUSHYANT SINGH, SHRADDHA JOSHI, VIKAS DIVYAKIRTI who make us believe that “One Good person can conquer hundreds of bad people and can inspire thousands of aspiring people!”

12. And definitely for reminding us WHY FALLING ASLEEP ON A BUS FULL OF STRANGERS IS A BAD IDEA !!!

Now allow me to talk what I hated about this movie. I wish you take my criticism constructively!

  1. I hate that you didn’t come up with this movie sooner. I could have gotten inspired in my student phase you know!
  2. I hate that we as Audience know how to appreciate good movies but we fail to make them bigger commercial success than mediocre movies made for #superstars
  3. I HATE THAT THERE ARE SOME BAD AND MONOTOUS DIRECTORS WHO COULD NOT LEARN THE TRUE MEANING OF #ART !!!

But mostly I would like to THANK YOU for making such a cinematic MASTERPIECE….

With Love,

Madhumita K.
