NEW YEAR RESOLUTION: FROM EXPECTATION TO EXECUTION

Let’s decode the art of execution. This time, you are going to transform your resolution notes into reality with a little guidance:-

  1. Break Down Your Goals into Steps: Instead of simply adding “find a new job” to your list, consider breaking it down into manageable steps like:
  • A. Apply to 10 jobs per day.
  • B. Aim for at least 8 interviews every week.
  • C. Tailor your resume for different positions.

2. Think About the Effect Afterwards: Initiating a change, such as starting at the gym, benefits from a proper motivational boost. Rather than just deciding to join the gym, remind yourself of the WHY behind your desire for change or improvement. Is it to match the fitness levels of your peers or to regain the youthful appearance of your previous photos? Display your old favourite shirt prominently in your room to draw motivation from the goal of fitting into that stunning piece of clothing.

3. Set an Alternative Goal for Each Primary Goal: Acknowledge that not all your goals may be achievable within the year. Establish an alternative goal that is easier to attain, ensuring that you don’t become overly disappointed or disheartened if your primary goal is not realised. For instance, if your primary goal is marriage and settling down, an alternative goal could involve going to dates or travelling and meeting new people.

4. Be Flexible: If a particular resolution remains unfulfilled by the initial target date, grant yourself an extension. Avoid overly rigid schedules that may contribute to negative emotions rather than fostering positive ones.

5. Find a Partner for Support: Seek out someone with similar interests to provide mutual support. When one of you want to give up, the other can encourage to continue. This partner could be someone from your existing circle or a new acquaintance who shares your goals.

6. Jump on the easier one instead of fixating on a particular goal: Making an order of what to do after which one is okay but fixating on them isn’t.

If ‘Learn French’ was your first priority and you couldn’t do so in first few months, instead of procrastinating the other goals for this one- start acting on other ones. Perhaps the easier one like ‘Write a journal everyday’.

Begin with modest steps, relish the sensation of accomplishment, let the surge of adrenaline fuel your determination, and stride confidently toward more formidable challenges.
